Fire Protection Engineer, American Hospital Association
The Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) supports ASHE’s advocacy program at the
policy level of federal agencies, national code promulgation and accreditation
organizations, state agencies, and national professional associations that
regulate or impact healthcare facility design, construction, and operation. The
FPE advises the AHA policy group on evolving healthcare issues with
architectural/design implications such as facility design and construction, life
safety and building codes, emergency readiness, hazardous materials,
environmental and occupational safety.

Co-manages ASHE portfolio of
advocacy/public policy initiatives including gathering intelligence on evolving
issues, soliciting, analyzing, and prioritizing current proposed regulation,
determines the most effective actions in support of ASHE member goals, and
judiciously deploys resources to accomplish these actions.
♦ Provides
testimony, engages in debate, and crafts public comments on proposed regulations
to the benefit of ASHE and AHA members.
♦
revision committees, and issue
specific task forces to effectively influence regulations, standards, and
guidance at the earliest and least burdensome level.
Skills:
♦ BA/BS Fire
Engineering, Facility management, regulatory enforcement / development, or
design and construction.
3-5 years experience in Fire Safety Engineering,
Advocacy and Public Policy, Code Development and Promulgation.
♦ Must possess
fire protection specialist certification and other society certifications that
identify the candidate’s commitment to the profession.
♦ Requires expert
knowledge of healthcare facility design, construction, and operations.
